Political characteristics
The foundation of the Templars in 1118 provided the first of many organized military force which protected the Christian colonies. Military orders were Catholic orders of knighthood that were founded against Muslims invasions


Economic characteristics

Proud knights in the Crusades would march towards an important economic rewards because of their services. The Crusades had far-reaching political, economic, and social impacts.

Social characteristics
The main purpose of military orders in the Middle Age was propagating and defending the Catholic faith. It was a high privilege and a distinct honor to be part of a military order. The Crusades were expeditions undertaken, in fulfillment of a solemn vow, to take back the Holy Places from the Muslims’ control. Some of the crusade expeditions were diverted from their original aim and use the crusades as an excuse to kill people who were not Christians. Over time the expeditions extended to take back Spain from the control of the Moors (Muslims), the Slavs and Pagans from eastern Europe, and the islands of the Mediterranean.

Very prestigious position in
Society. Generous with enemies
Respectful toward women. Took care of the weak. Ceremony: VERY IMPORTANT! Jerusalem was a holy place for Christians because of Jesus’ life and for Muslims because Mohammad spent three important days there.
